Ok, I got my cute friend Lacey all set up with her NEW blog look! And she is so excited… here is a peek!

You should go check her blog out.. she just re-did her scrapbook room and it totally ROCKS! Feeling jealous of her organization!! Because … ok, and this is totally embarrassing.. but true…want to see what my work station looks like right now?

Do you see how I have this HUGE workstation, and notice how I have worked myself into a tiny corner of this thing! ...(i better take a photo of it clean before i go to bed!!) I have been creating up a storm, and just having a blast…but I have been doing ‘grazing-like’ scrapbooking… where I can’t really dedicate myself to the project, I just have to wander over… do this or that, and then carry on with my referee job.  Eric has been out of town… so it’s double duty. I hate it when he is gone.
What have I been working on, you ask?

 So excited to share! Capri and Connor are loving this book, and fascinated with photos of themselves as babies! So cute…Capri has discovered tutus and ballerina costumes…she has turned into a magical fairy princess ballerina. It’s fantastic! It’s turned into this massive project that I am so totally loving.

Here is a little preview…it’s a project that we (Rhonna, Janet and I) have created for our first-ever houseof3.com House Warming Party! (just wait until you see their beautiful books...)  This weekend, we’ll be posting a whole bunch of new products that tie in with this amazing project…you will be able to download, print and create just like that! We’ll have some videos, step by step tutorials, technique tips and how-to’s … the works. Rhonna, Janet and I have each created our own versions of this House Warming Book… the concept is: ‘What makes your house a HOME!’… it’s a tribute to what IS under your roof! 
Have you ever thought about that? what makes YOUR house… a HOME? It’s really different for everyone. I will be talking about it in a video clip that will be available to view Sat and Sunday. We will be making the downloadable product available on FRIDAY (Feb. 27th) and you will be able to get a jump on things by printing stuff out before you see our finished books… or you can wait, and on Sat… you’ll see inside every nook and cranny of our creations.
IMPORTANT: you DO NOT HAVE to be a ‘digital’ scrapbooker to participate…({NOTE}… we have everything bundled up for those digi scrappers out there as well!) these files are simply-download and print. You’ll need some cardstock, acetate (specific for your type of printer; probably ink jet), and everything else in your STASH! And the day wouldn’t be complete without some giveaways, and prizes… so check it out. I’ll be posting links and making sure that you don’t miss a thing over the weekend! So stay tuned! Of course we have a fab freebie that will be available as well!

I played my first tennis match of the SPRING season this morning… my partner Lisa and I played a girl from Norway and one from the UK. We were so evenly matched… it took us 2 ½ hours to play 3 matches…and guess what !? we WON! I am just learning the ropes of tennis as I go, but it’s SO MUCH FUN! my legs are so tired. I need to get back in shape…ahh, it even felt a little like SPRING today! {smile} it’s FRIDAY here in BJ, and the best part of that.. in addition to the fact that American Idol is on again tonight, and I am just ordering PIZZA for dinner… I don’t have to pack school lunch for 2 days!  I hate packing lunches. Have a wonderful, fabulous FRIDAY.. and we’ll see you at House of 3 this weekend!

We are finalizing our preparations for this weekend! we have been making movies, and writing up tips, and getting ready to host our first ever online event!  FUN.

um. we are OUT of diapers. which means i have to go to the store. which means i have to get dressed, and put on a little make up and.. do something about my hair.. and find my wallet. seems like a lot of work!

just for fun.

I stayed up LATE last night scrapbooking. Well.. I scrapbooked until about 12:30am, when I got on a Creative Escape conf. call for a couple of hours, and then I was too excited to sleep! We have ALL NEW SURPRISES in store. So those of you who think you know what happens at CE… well, you don’t! (wink). It’s going to be fab… and it’s going to be here before we know it.. . and that is freaking me out.  but just seeing all the projects, and talking about the secrets, is EXCITING. So, I am operating on about an hour of sleep today and feeling a bit sluggish. I think I’ll have to sleep when Capri sleeps today, for sure.
So, I completed 4 layouts…there is no rhyme or reason, just wanting to get my creativity flowing. I just needed to PLAY! I have SO many fun, memorable photos from the last 4-5 months… so I need to just do some pleasure-scrapbooking! Eric got on his bike ‘rollers’… man, I should have taken a photo. I will next time. He just got them-he used to just ride on a ‘trainer’ that you mount your bike on, and it just turns it to a stationary bike. Well ‘rollers’ is kinda like a treadmill for bikers, but you have to keep pedaling, and keep your balance. It was looking like a lot of work! So we were watching that 24 movie- ‘Redemption’, so now forever when I see these pages I will be traumatized by my memories of that movie! LOL.

I started with this cute photo of the boys playing monopoly. I love this photo-the bird’s eye view… and what I wanted to remember was just them hanging around playing a game together. (well, that is what I want THEM to remember).
I used paper from the Street Smarts collection- it’s perfect for the boys. Then I decided to make my own embellishments, and I stole a $50, $20 and $10 from the game. I SHOULD have just photo copied them, but I was LAZY. I inked them w/ distress to get the color to pop, and used glossy accents to adhere Tim’s fragments over the parts of the money that I liked. Who doesn’t love and connect w/ monopoly money! I then pulled from some of the old-standby’s… cut a definition out of my old dictionary, and typed on my Dymo.
For the finishing touches, I used some of Tim’s spinners, and my Street Smarts glossy accents, ghost wings, and mini-ghost crown that I sanded to make a little less transparent. The black and white letters have been resurrected, and will be available very soon! Yay!


The 2nd page I did…was about our Thanksgiving. We celebrated with a bunch of families here in our branch, and it was a highlight of my time in Beijing. The  photo is just a ‘feel’ photo, I didn’t get a big group photo, which I am KICKING myself for STILL! But this photo captures, and jogs my memory of what I was feeling that day. SO the goal for this page was journaling my memory-capturing that feel. I used this SUPER cute Karen Russell paper layered over a piece from the World Traveller line. I just love this brown and black hounds. Very versatile. I mounted the photo using a few cream photo corners (I didn’t have enough for them to all be the same size, so there is one small one… just pretend I MEANT to do that!) –mounted on a piece from the Street Smarts collection-good, subtle. Then wrapped it with soft ribbons- silks and printed seambinding. I added a couple felt leaves from Chatterbox, and you can probably spot the chandelier crystal and bling. I just stiched the chandelier crystal on while I was sewing buttons on. (funny side note.. Emily Waters just HATES it when I attach buttons w/ nothing in the holes…it’s her biggest pet peeve… so now forever more, I can’t just glue on a button, has to be sewn on! Thanks em)…… I am on a bit of a button kick, and this set from Chatterbox (artsy.licious 'splendid treasures)  totally has done me right. I bought it when I was with the house of 3 girls in Provo… and I have almost used every last one.  That is what I used at the top of this journaling strip. The ‘gratitude’ and ‘thankful for’ elements are from that hybrid book that I posted on my blog in Dec. I have used those a lot! I added a couple stamps- the ‘thanksgiving’ is one of those huge Provo Craft alphabet turning stamps; and my very favorite stamp set: Cavallini Papers &Co Birds & Nests. (the bird)
I couldn’t resist using some of my new papers… they should start to be available here any time! so look for them! The ‘Summer Sun’ collection is perfect for my cruise photos… These are both from Grand Cayman… perfect to really mix bright colors and patterns! Some of my new papers have the printed elements die-cut for you so they are like ‘built in embellishments’.. SO fab. That is what you see here.. the border sheet also has a flap, that has the little turquoise flowers that layer on the white ones and it all looks dimensional and so easy to do! once I positioned my photos, and journaling spot, I layered a hambly overlay on top. And I used my favorite MM product.. love these little glitter letters. Dang cute.  but the lime green flower gets center stage!


The ‘let’s ride’ was the last one of the night/morning. This was the hightlight of my cruise! My folks and I rented scooters and cruised the island. As you can imagine they were dog-scooters, but they did the trick. Again, this is new paper from my CHA 09 release.. the big circle journaling element is on the border sheet, and is a ‘die cut’ element. I coupled it with OLD heidi stuff.. chipboard tags, and chipboard letters.. I absolutely LOVE the mixed print letters.. and they were perfect for these… get this, they are on sale on my website for .99$ (the stripes and dots).. I also used orange, lime and that little hot pink apostrophe. (it’s so cute!) the orange arrow journaling spots are .99$ too! notice the glitter stickers, the dymo tape and of course orange bling…anything goes with island photos! You gotta love that.

Inside the DESIGN tab, where you post your blog banner… there is also a place there for background. if you select that button, and you see ‘background color’- type in “NONE”. That will make it transparent!!

"TRY IT, YOU'LL like it" (-yo gaba gaba)

'Try it, you'll like it" is one of my favorite Yo Gaba Gaba songs. LOL.
I am sitting in the sun on the little love seat in my studio w/ my computer on my lap, still in my pj’s and bed head. I have actually been quite productive today, but not overly motivated to get ‘ready’ for the day. I have been playing with my ‘sunny’ new blog look… ok, so blog decorating is actually quite addictive! It’s SO EASY once you FINALLY have it figured out. at first I thought that I had to really pick out something that was very “ME”… because I would probably get it on there, and NOT want to mess with it! but now, I am finding that it’s SO FUN, and you can ‘wear’ whatever… it can change as often as your mood! The yellow is really working for me, and my ‘spring fever’. You can see that this particular look is very ‘house of 3-esque’… it happens to be in celebration and preparation for the House Warming Party this weekend…but it is very spring-y. 
I have a confession: the first time I added a new background and header, I didn’t do it!  I was too afraid that if I got in there, in the ‘inside’ of my blog- I would crash Typepad or something! Lol… I am so not computer ‘savvy’… and I am always SO reluctant to learn anything NEW. Especially, if I have to figure it out myself. I like to be TAUGHT… step by step and hands on.
Ok, so… I decided that I loved the ability to change things around, and I couldn’t always be emailing the web guy- and then waiting for him to ‘get to it!’.. (although, I have to hand it to Stewart.. he is an AMAZING web guy).
Alright, so to all of you who are like me… you like the look, and even the ‘thought’ of a little blog ‘couture’… but you are NOT excited about trying to figure out the mumbo jumbo of the backside of your blog… then take a deep breath, and give it a TRY!! (don’t be scared).
Ok, I am taking to you TYPEPAD people … if you are a blogspot/blogger then I am going to let Rhonna help you out. (we’ll pester her!)
Here is what you are going to do:
1.    SHOP! Ah, this is the fun part! Head over to HOUSE of 3… there are a WHOLE BUNCH of backgrounds and headers to choose from! They are fab… all created by the one and only Rhonna Farrer.  They are totally MIX and MATCH action! Now, you can put just a background up, or just a header.. you don’t HAVE to use both! (but so cute). If you have access to photoshop, or photoshop elements, then you can customize your blog header with your name etc! OK.
2.    Once you have made your selection, and it’s downloaded… log into typepad.
3.    Click on your blog- and then select the tab that says ‘CONTROL PANEL’ (it’s in the top right corner) this will show you your ‘profile’ . you will see a new set of tabs, and one of them will say ‘files’….select ‘files’
4.    To the right, you will see ‘upload new files’… with a browse button.  Click on browse, and find where you have saved your NEW FAB House of 3 background! and select it. Then click the ‘upload’ button. 

Look for the 'file' tab

'upload' here..

5.    The new background will show up to the left in the list. Click on it, and the background will open in a new window. (keep it here, you will need to copy and paste this link in #7)
6.    Now go back to your WEBLOG window, and select your blog again- and this time choose the ‘DESIGN’ tab.
7.    At the bottom of the page you will see ‘Custom CSS’. When you open this window, you can paste this:

body {
background: transparent url("http://example.com/background.jpg") top center repeat-y;
}

but where it says: example.com/background.jpg - you cut and paste the LINK to your new background that you have from that list in the files that you uploaded in #4 (above).

That ‘code’ will tell it that you want the background to be centered, and repeat.
If you want to play around with it, you can try a couple different code options that we have listed here in the tutorial section of House of 3. (I haven’t tried them)

8.    Choose ‘save’… and then check out your work! Be sure you ‘refresh’ if you don’t see it.

Ok: now… if you want to add your banner on there… here is what you do:

1.    after you have downloaded, and customized it…
2.    and you are in typepad, and your blog- select the ‘DESIGN’ tab again
3.    select ‘theme’
4.    under ‘banner’ you will see ‘text or image’… click on that.
5.    click the ‘image’ button, and then browse for your fab banner
6.    click ‘save changes’ at the bottom… and you should be in business!

Ok, so I know that seems like a lot of GUNK! But seriously, it’s super easy, and it’s SOOOO fun to try something NEW and to dress up your blog!
And like I said, at first, I was all uptight about what background I chose, and then I realized… so easy to change, so fun to open it up and see it all fresh!  And you can ALWAYS count on House of 3 to deliver NEW, fresh looks for YOUR blog! (we’ll be serving up a new batch in March!)

missing my mom and sis.

I knew I couldn’t be the only one wishing for spring!! I had to laugh when I woke up this morning to these photos in my email… totally made my DAY! this is my mom and my sister. they both live in SLC, and are so ready for spring as well! just made me sad that I wasn’t there hanging out with them!

I have spent my whole day working on my version of our House of 3 “House Warming” project. it’s almost all together now, and I LOVE it even more than I thought I would! Our ‘house warming’ party is Feb. 28th and March 1st. I’ll be sharing more info,  as well as some sneak peeks! We have some cool stuff in the works.

Ok, 4pm. Hmmm- what’s for dinner??.......i know, Chinese food!

snow?

The last 2 days, Beijing has been blanketed by snow. I guess that WINTER is sticking around for awhile, anyway. If you live in AZ, and it never really gets totally cold, and everything doesn’t totally die, then you really never get ‘spring fever’. At least I don’t remember feeling it. but here, it’s funny how anxious I am for the weather to turn! I have even found myself pulling out my summery-spring-colored clothes. I decided that I needed something bright and springy to look at in my studio, so I created a SPRING banner! I printed all the letters out on bright fresh colors, and mounted them on to chipboard. I used some big clear beads and black ribbon to string the whole thing together.  It turned out so cute, that I made it into a hybrid project for House of 3.   I figured that I can’t be the only one that is wishing for springtime! as I was printing the letters, I also printed out a mini-version, and hung it on the fridge. Some how it’s totally brightened things up. (it's available with the background included,  or just so that you can print them out on any paper!) isn’t it crazy how the weather totally effects your mood?

 I am happy to be feeling much better, but it seems like the bug just keeps passing along. I think that Cory is next. Every one I talk to is either sick, or knows someone who is sick. Nothing tasted better to me than HOMEMADE chicken soup. YES, I learned how to make Chicken Noodle Soup. (ok, I didn’t make the noodles). It was so delish. And it’s so great to have a bunch of soup in the fridge that is quick to heat and serve.  If you know anyone that is SICK, I am sure they would love a HAPPY get well card! It’s nice to be ‘thought of’ while you are suffering! (check out the cutie new printable cards (and this) at H of 3…)
I was playing around with the new birdcage brushes that Rhonna created, and made this in nothing flat, it’s so cute and SO happy!
I am excited that we still have more American Idol to look forward to!! We are all so into it! it’s just a big slice of ‘americana’ that we can appreciate!  It’s really the only thing that we watch on TV.. but now, it’s really taking up a lot of time! it’s good because it really motivates the kids to get home, and get their homework done quick.

SO, as of TODAY… both Capri and Connor are climbing out of their beds all by themselves. Believe it or not, Connor figured it out first. GASP!!! What am I going to do? NONE of the older kids learned how to crawl out this early. I guess this is what having older siblings does! I can tell that bedtime is going to be a nightmare for awhile. Not to mention NAPTIME! Ugh, I am in trouble.

sick day.

I hate being sick.
And I am really sick… dad, I even had to get out the orange hat. That is serious. Every inch of my body aches. I have blaring head pain, sinus pressure, sore throat, cough and the ‘hot/cold’. Can’t get warm, then over-heat… take off my layers, and freeze. Hurts. My ears hurt too. MAN, I AM WHINEY. It’s been going on for 3 days now, and I am wondering when it’s going to be DONE!? It’s getting ridiculous. and I have this desire to scrapbook, but I tried… I even set up the extra table, so I could sit, instead of stand-which I usually do while I create stuff. I tried 3 different sets of photos, and it was just completely fruitless. AND, it snowed today. It’s the first snow I have seen this winter... it was fun to watch… but can I tell you that I am so OVER winter. I am ready for spring! (hence my new blog banner-H of 3). So springy!
Because I was so cold, I liked sitting on my couch w/ my laptop on my lap keeping me warm. I did some surfing the internet… reading some blogs, and checking out what is new on some of my favorite sites… wondering what is going to be HOT this spring in fashion etc! I was excited when I found this… this is a style board that J Crew had on their site… it said: check out what inspired our spring collection or something like that… I LOVE this. I loved seeing their inspiration, and getting a tiny peek into their creative process. I think you can learn so much by exploring different kinds of ‘creative processes’.

And then I found a bunch of things that were totally fitting my SPRING mood! SO cute… one of the things that I really miss about being at home is just ‘inspriation shopping’… so as I felt like junk, sitting here in the snow, I found these fab pieces that got my creativity jiving!

(it's always free to look!) (saw them all at Anthropologie.com).  Do you know that Anthropologie has this cool thing called ‘spotlight’. It’s a widget that you download, and then everyday it updates with something cool from the site… of course, it’s to get you to buy, but for me.. it’s just a little inspiration on my desktop! I love it!

I also took a look through all my photos… working on a fun project for House of 3… and needed to go back through the last year for some photos… I think that all the kids have changed SO much since we have been here… and of course, the little one  have changed the most, but even Colton and Cory… this is a year ago this week.

sugar cookies and other valentine messes.

Today was a hang-around-the-house-not-get-dressed day. I woke up with a sore throat… but was blessed with a couple of extra hours of sleep- Connor slept until 9:30am. That was a world record for him. Eric was on a campout w/ Colton and Cory, so our house was minus the “fighting with quincy” factor… which is probably why the ‘little ones’ slept in!
Shortly after we woke up, quincy’s cute little friend Samantha came over, and they were determined to get to work on making some valentines. They went nuts. (as you can see). Even Capri got into the action. She knows exactly what to do with the distress ink and applicator tool. It’s her ‘favorite-‘can’t scrap without it tool!
 .  Nothing was sacred (to my dismay). And i am sorry to report, that I have run out of every shade of pink paper in my entire stash. WELL, my stash has been dwindling.. it’s quite a sad stash actually. I can’t wait to get a box of my new CHA product.. and get my hands on that paper… (my Love Notes line would have made for some lovely valentines).
By the time afternoon rolled around, I had mustered up the energy to face the promised, and much anticipated sugar cookie creation process. I don’t have a single cookie cutter here with me, so we did hand-cut hearts.. and all the different sizes, and shapes actually turned out cute and delicious. Once that was over...and loaded onto plates for distribution… we doorbell ditched a bunch of our neighbors, which is very exciting for the kids.
Yesterday Eric took me to a Thai spa downtown, where he surprised me with an ‘Ultimate Indulgence package’… ( I thought that was funny, that the name was like the tag line of CE). It involved a body scrub, a thai massage which is much more of a stretching and pressure point type of massage… and an Aromatherapy massage…  the room was set up for two people, so we got to enjoy the pampering together… what a treat.
