welcome to my house! let's party...
« September 2010 | Main | November 2010 »
so i had myself a little yudu party today! me and my aunt KJ... just getting all ready for the webshow tomorrow night- man, this time instead of having to clean up my studio (which really just involves moving stuff so it's not visible on camera...) i have to clean up the kitchen in preparation... i got up and got dying the shirts this morning- i bought shirts at target- they were Hanes... (my kids love the hanes) and when you get them in the pack- they are $1 each! anyway... i dyed some grey and some orange. i'll be showing that trick off, and giving my tips and tricks... (thanks for the help LIZ!) i created a couple screens... (there might be a freebie tomorrow night...wink) and i LOVED how they turned out. i wound up mostly using the white and black paints... so kept it pretty simple! the Fam LOVED the t-shirts... and they immediately went from yudu to body this afternoon!
(even eric wore his to basketball tonight) that must mean either he loves it or hates it... hmmm? of course, i don't like the hanes t-shirts... so i need to go and buy me a shirt that i will wear... the weather is turning a bit cooler, so i think i may have to go and find me long sleeve t-shirt tomorrow.
in other news... janet and rhonna and i have been finalizing our new CHA winter releases... gasp! it's SO, oh so cute... and i hate that we have to keep it a secret for so long still. anyway... not that you don't know this- but Janet and Rhonna are amazing... and i love working with them! it's a thrill.

AND making my halloween screens... i will show you how to create your very own holiday t-shirts... step by step, start to finish... it will blow your mind!
the show is tomorrow night, 8pm Mountain time... so that is 7pm in Calif, and 10pm on the east coast... and you have to figure anything out in between ... if you haven't joined in the fun, well, you are just missing out! if you go to the USTREAM link... you can create a user name and password- that will allow you to sign in and chat it up w/ the other ladies... we have quite a crowd, and it's fun to chit chat w/ women from all over!

the Fabulous Maggie Holmes is in town... and we were lucky enough to book her to photography our family... which we did on Sat evening up at the Utah State Capital. it's so gorgeous up there, and it turned out to be a beautiful afternoon for photos! she just sent me the previews for a TON of great shots, so i just have to show off a few. i guess i am really going to have to whittle it down to my favorites- and i am getting them blown up ! I have some really fun ideas... this is my christmas present to myself, and from everyone in my family- at least that is what i kept telling them so that they would WORK WITH ME!! (and some crazy ideas)...
i realized that "perfect family photo" is not in the cards for our group- the sitting still, and smiling perfect... not a chance... so i even love the wind blown, and casual approach- i am amazed at what Maggie captured... as i sat and looked through the photos this morning, i just was so thankful- couple of these brought some tears... i think that family photos are SO much work! and cause SO much stress!! Maggie is so calm, and relaxed.. there was such a no pressure vibe, and that was just what our group needed! take a look! i am thrilled, and delighted...
i love those utah moutains in the blackground
there are tons of this photogenic girl! so cute.
this one was being a little turkey, but you wouldn't know it from the photos!
capri was SO into the photos... give her a new dress, and she'll smile all day!
and of course... we haven't aged a bit!
a tear here... from me... this kid turns 13 this month, and it's freaking me out a little. for anyone who knows him- this captured him to a tee!
another tear... i want this one HUGE
you get photos like this- and it just make you realize that time just FLIES! and it makes all the other photos- all the scrapbook pages and books and memories just that much more precious. you just have to capture it... it's crazy
this was part of a project i want to do... but how great-
i am thrilled, and thankful- blessed and delighted... thanks Maggie! i think that you can think of every excuse in the book to put off- or miss a year etc etc... on the family photo... but really - this should happen regularly! yearly AT LEAST! sometimes you should ask your sister to snap some shots, and sometimes, you should pay someone... and get something that you will blow up and put on the wall... i think that i LOVE the unexpected shots the MOST... and those will add so much to the wall collage that i want to create. of course- i wish i was 15 lbs lighter...but seriously- if i wait until that happens, we'll never get a photo! it was worth the effort, as well as the investment. those of you who will be on the Ultimate Cruise with me next month will see more of these! i'll be using them in that project!
HEY LOCALS.... Maggie will be here through the week, and she mentioned that she does have like 2-3 possible openings that she could swing. here is a little flyer about her being here- she is shooting in a couple different locations- and she did say that you get more like 50-70 images... and if you are reading my blog- and you are a UTAH local... she'll knock $50 off the price for my blog readers! she spent about an hour with us... she was fast and it was FUN! email her HERE for more info - it also sounded like she is not only shooting on the weekend- sounds like she is trying to work around the weather. just email her and find out if you are interested!

there are a total of 17 pieces... and they are just the most useable, versatile stamps ever! well, that was the whole point of the entire collection- just stuff that you could use and use and not be dictated by a specific color- and colorize it yourself. So i have started working with one of the albums in the collection- i'll share it later, but i am doing a little exercise with myself- i am calling it "30 days of Positive Thinking"... i know i have mentioned it before, i am kinda a 'cup 1/2 empty' type... So i am filling this album with all things POSITIVE!
i did some stamping and inking of bits and pieces that i will be putting in my album:
this is one of the single stamps- LOVE IT! i added a bit of color into the butterfly, and inked it all up! i am using the Crushed Olive and Victorian Velvet distress ink vibe for my book- it's also kinda the Apple Glimmer mist color with Pomegranate and Cherry Blossom..
this bit is a total of 5 of the stamps put together... you just can't go wrong combining!
here i used 5 different stamps together-3 are the same as above, but you can get a totally different look!
for this one, i used 4 of the stamps... i love that chair! (i did kinda mess it up!)
this butterfly and banner are just SO useful! and well, i am in LOVE with the cake plate... could use that a million times and not be tired of it! SO, those are just a few little ideas... the list could go on and on! if you scroll back down through my 'ruffle darlings' feature, you will spot more of the stamps used on those projects...
yesterday my 30-days of Positive Thinking started... so i wanted to start out with one of my favorite scriptures... because i really do believe that all positivity comes from a whole-hearted trust in God! SO, i kicked it off with Proverbs 3:5, " Trust in the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding"
like i said, i'll talk more about the album later... OR, you could watch tomorrow night's LIVE WEBSHOW!! it's direct to you from Janet's house, and she'll be doing a most amazing project using this album... this is seriously, an awesome album because of all the creative inserts inside... this first page is a 5x7, and i stamped and inked the page, and then did the embellishments on the outside of the sheet protectors... i added glimmer mist to my ruffle darling, and to the tips of the flower darling. this is just the beginning!
ALSO WORTH MENTIONING: to you California girls... Wendy Senger (owner of Tattered Angels, and inventor of Glimmer mist), will be teaching at Scrapbook Island on the 16-17th of Oct. She will be teaching Glimmer Mist 101 and 201, using some of my products as well as all the new paints and chalkboard etc. it's SO inspiring to watch her at work! She will be at Scrapbooks Made Simple on Oct 23 all day doing the same 101 and 201... if you are in the area, you will LOVE it! acutally taking a Glimmer Misting class totally is a light-bulb moment!
OK..........thinking positive!
today's thought: "whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right"

whew... it's a new week, a new month... a new season! all feels good- i had such a great weekend- busy, but great... Every Oct and April The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) have a 2-day General Conference... it's when all the world leaders of the church gather and give their inspired messages- i look forward to these conferences so much- i think it's amazing how perfectly the messages, and counsel match up to the things i am struggling with and need encouragement or counsel on. no matter where you are in the world (almost) you can hear this conf. in your own language- or, shortly after the conference, you can view, read or listen to them on the website. i gave myself license to SIT and LISTEN, and i didn't even 'multi-task'... can i just tell you that i feel renewed, and strengthened! spiritual health and strength is so critical to my physical function as well as my creative capabilities! i was reminded of some really important things- and also thankful for the little glimpses of personal insight that i gained as i listened. Certainly am feeling the love of a Heavenly Father and Savior that knows me and answers my prayers. - i just have to express my gratitude for all that goes into that... and for the blessing it is in my life!
i am not sure if you have had a chance to see and get your hands on the new House of 3 "parisian anthology" line- from what i hear, it's selling out FAST everywhere! (big smiles) i have been playing and creating some little videos that give some ideas on cool things to do with these products. they are SO amazingly interesting and versatile! it is impossible for me to pick a "favorite" thing in the line, cause frankly, it's ALL inspiring!- and it's just the kind of thing that i like- where it can be used over and over, for so many applications! this is a photo of a crown that i created for the summer show... i was photographing it to feature the 'ruffled darlings'. this is what you get in a package
(sorry for the small photo!) but you get 3 15" ruffles... in 3 colors... they are not self adhesive- that allows you to put them on all kinds of projects... as i have said for the past several months, i can't even finish a project without putting a ruffle on it! it's just NOT complete w/out a little 'frill' (they call ruffles frills in Australia)... can i share a couple examples? just to get your creative brain in motion? ok... here is just a couple ideas on layouts... of course, highlighting photos! in fact, 3 layouts; all 3 colors!
on this layout- i also used one of the 'flower darlings' from the collection... but see how there is only like 3 1/2" of ruffle on this page.. that is because the other 12" are what i used above on that crown that Capri is wearing- i think that the biggest surprise i had when i first got my hands on these was how awesome it is Glimmer Misted! (and not just the white!!) i glimmer misted the ruffle on the crown w/ Mustard Seed... i get questions already about attaching: glossy accents, hot glue, tiny attacher, sewing machine- that is my top 4.
so... lets keep going! what about cards?
the fabulous Janet Hopkins created this one, and used a little Chalkboard Glimmer mist to make the grey ruffle even more grey! (oh, how she loves grey!) both of these feature the 'fold over ruffle' technique.. that hides/tucks inside... (notice how the paper used in the card below is the same paper used on my crown above... ) oh, and you might notice that there are some of the little DANGLES also featured on both these cards... cute. cute.
paper crafting is only the beginning! what about something you could WEAR? leave it to Rhonna... the accessory queen! flower darlings and ruffle darlings create the elements for this necklace, along with the unique starburst embellishments... (you can see these on top of my crown too!)
and while you could just buy a flower, you can also MAKE one! just like Rhonna did here:
and i still love this one too!
i took the grey ruffles and colored them w/ pinkish (tutti fruity to be exact) glimmer mist to adorn the cardboard dress form... how cute is this? i do love it.
SO, there you have it.. my Ruffle Darling Feature!! come back tomorrow while i show off one of the other fabulous pieces...
